Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis

My husband Bill is in the late stages of pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease with no known cure. This is our story of our journey through the disease and how it has affected one family's life.

We learned this past week that yet another sibling has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. This makes four of eight. Two are deceased, so we will never know if they might carry the gene. Neither of them married or had children who could be tested.

This latest case was found when the tests were completed for the Duke University Medical Center research test. This has strong implications for the next generations. It may also indicate just how strong the gene may be.

Bill started using oxygen at night this past week. He thinks that it helps him to sleep better. He will have a breathing test next month to determine the progression of the disease. He has trouble walking even very short distances, so we will see what the prognosis is.
